CCTV maintenance, faults & removal
Keep systems healthy: clean lenses, replace damaged cables and dead cameras, and remove systems cleanly.
Overview
Cameras fail: lenses get dirty, cables get damaged and units die. Each fault raises an OPS Secure job and shows on the recorder ([E] → the camera). Repairs to kit under warranty, or covered by a support contract, are free for the customer. A removal job is only done when every camera at the site is gone.
Jobs this covers
cctv_fault, cctv_maintenance, cctv_cable, cctv_removal — certificate: CCTV installer (recommended)
The equipment — what everything does
Camera status
ok, fault_lens (picture blurred), fault_cable, fault_dead, no_power…
In game: [E] at the NVR or the camera.
Replacement cable
A new CAT6 run when the old one is damaged.
In game: Pull and terminate a new run.
Tools & PPE
Ladder
Reaches walls, ceilings and pole steps. Place it at a 1-in-4 angle on firm ground.
RJ45 crimper & cable tester
Fits RJ45 plugs onto CAT6 and proves all eight cores are connected in the right order.
Engineer laptop & console cable
Configures routers, NVRs and servers, runs speed tests and opens OPS Hub.
Hi-vis vest & hard hat PPE
Makes you visible to traffic and protects your head from falling objects and low beams.
Safety glasses PPE
Protect your eyes from fibre shards, drilling dust and laser light.
Standalone servers: tools are in your van (OPS Work → My van & tools). Items servers: collect them — and the job’s parts — at an OPS depot.
Step by step
[E] at the NVR — check which cameras show a fault.
Lens: [E] at the camera → clean. Cable: run a new CAT6 run. Dead: replace the camera.
Every camera on the site must be healthy for a fault job.
For removal jobs, take down every camera on the site.

Health & safety
Working at height
Risk: A fall from a ladder or pole can cause serious injury.
Control: Use a ladder at a 1-in-4 angle on firm ground with three points of contact. Above 2 m on a pole, clip on your harness.
Electricity
Risk: Mains voltage can give a fatal shock and cause burns.
Control: Never open powered kit. Isolate and prove dead with a voltage tester before touching terminals.
In game you confirm these in a risk assessment before starting. Skipping them on risky work can cause a fall or a shock — and it’s logged as a safety incident.
When it’s not done correctly
Fixing one camera but leaving another faulty
The 'all cameras working' check fails.
A camera left on the wall during removal
The removal check lists cameras still fitted.
Charging a customer whose kit is under warranty
Warranty or contract cover makes the job free automatically — the invoice is zero.
