Electrical supply & EV charging

Connect new electricity supplies and EV chargers so sockets and chargers are live.

Overview

Power comes from the grid (substations and feeders) over poles to a service cut-out and meter at each property, then into a consumer unit that feeds sockets, lights and chargers. A supply is only live when every link is complete and the grid is energised — in a power cut nothing downstream works. Jobs check that the consumer unit or charger near the site is live.

Jobs this covers

sapl_supply, sapl_ev — certificate: Electrical installation (Part P) (required)

The equipment — what everything does

Service cut-out & meter

Where the supply enters the property and is measured.

In game: /towers → San Andreas Power & Light → Customer supply & metering.

Consumer unit

Feeds sockets and lights around it through breakers.

In game: /towers → SAPL → Fuse boards & isolators.

EV charger (wallbox / post)

Charges electric vehicles from its own circuit.

In game: /towers → SAPL → EV charging.

Power cable

Service drop, LV and mains cable linking it all.

In game: Run power cable / Run mains cable from the SAPL menu.

Tools & PPE

Multimeter / voltage tester

Proves a circuit is dead before you touch it, and measures voltage, continuity and resistance.

Lock-off kit

Padlocks and tags that stop anyone switching a circuit back on while you work on it.

Torque driver

Tightens electrical terminals and rack rails to the correct torque — not too loose, not stripped.

Cordless drill & fixings

Drills walls for cable entry and fixes brackets, cameras and boxes with the right plugs and screws.

Ladder

Reaches walls, ceilings and pole steps. Place it at a 1-in-4 angle on firm ground.

Insulated gloves PPE

Rated gloves for work near live electrical parts and for sharp metal edges.

Safety glasses PPE

Protect your eyes from fibre shards, drilling dust and laser light.

Hi-vis vest & hard hat PPE

Makes you visible to traffic and protects your head from falling objects and low beams.

Standalone servers: tools are in your van (OPS Work → My van & tools). Items servers: collect them — and the job’s parts — at an OPS depot.

Step by step

1
Isolate and prove dead

Lock off the supply and prove dead with a voltage tester before touching anything.

Lock-off kit At the cut-out / consumer unit test
2
Fit the supply kit

Place the cut-out, meter and consumer unit (or the EV charger) from the SAPL menu.

Cordless drill & fixings /towers → San Andreas Power & Light drill
3
Run the cables

Run the service drop from the pole and mains cable to the consumer unit / charger.

Ladder Pole to property reach
4
Terminate to torque

Tighten every terminal with the torque driver.

Torque driver Each terminal crimp
5
Test and energise

Remove the lock-off, switch on and test. The check needs the kit live.

6
Complete

Press Check on the job.

Health & safety

Electricity

Risk: Mains voltage can give a fatal shock and cause burns.

Control: Never open powered kit. Isolate and prove dead with a voltage tester before touching terminals.

Isolation

Risk: Someone switches the circuit back on while you work.

Control: Lock off and tag the isolator; keep the key with you.

Working at height

Risk: A fall from a ladder or pole can cause serious injury.

Control: Use a ladder at a 1-in-4 angle on firm ground with three points of contact. Above 2 m on a pole, clip on your harness.

In game you confirm these in a risk assessment before starting. Skipping them on risky work can cause a fall or a shock — and it’s logged as a safety incident.

When it’s not done correctly

Not proving dead

With incidents on you can get a shock and be hurt. It's logged as a safety breach.

Supply not connected back to the grid

The consumer unit is dead: sockets, chargers and lighting won't work, and the check fails.

Grid outage in the area

Nothing is live until San Andreas Power & Light restores the feeder — the check fails until then.
