Mobile coverage survey

Survey mobile signal where customers report problems, to plan new masts and small cells.

Overview

Phones need signal from OPS Mobile towers to call, text and use data. Dead spots happen behind buildings, underground and far from masts. A survey records the signal at the reported spot so planners can add a mast or small cell.

Health & safety

Working in the street

Risk: Traffic and pedestrians around open chambers, cabinets and poles.

Control: Wear hi-vis and set out cones and barriers before you start. Never leave a chamber open and unattended.

Lone working

Risk: Surveys are often done alone.

Control: Tell dispatch where you are and keep your phone charged.

In game you confirm these in a risk assessment before starting. Skipping them on risky work can cause a fall or a shock — and it’s logged as a safety incident.

When it’s not done correctly

Leaving the area

The on-site timer pauses.

No signal to report back

The survey still counts — note it as a dead spot for planners.
