IT installation & support

Set up workstations and look after a business's IT on site.

Overview

OPS Systems installs and supports the computers that businesses rely on. A workstation laptop only gets online through its Ethernet port, cabled to a router or switch with internet — there's no magic Wi-Fi. Support visits are timed on site: you fix what the staff need while you're there.

The equipment — what everything does

Workstation laptop

A placed laptop that players open to use OPS OS (the phone's apps on a desktop).

In game: /towers → Buildings & sites → office & IT, or the job's kit list. Cable its Ethernet port to a switch/router.

Network uplink

The CAT6 run from the laptop to a router/switch with internet.

In game: Pull CAT6 and terminate it into the laptop and the switch.

Tools & PPE

Engineer laptop & console cable

Configures routers, NVRs and servers, runs speed tests and opens OPS Hub.

RJ45 crimper & cable tester

Fits RJ45 plugs onto CAT6 and proves all eight cores are connected in the right order.

Label printer

Labels both ends of every cable and port so the next engineer knows what is what.

Standalone servers: tools are in your van (OPS Work → My van & tools). Items servers: collect them — and the job’s parts — at an OPS depot.

Health & safety

Customer data & privacy

Risk: Router settings, passwords and camera footage are private.

Control: Only change what the job needs. Never share Wi-Fi passwords or footage, and log out of customer systems when you finish.

Trailing cables

Risk: Customers and staff trip over loose cable during the job.

Control: Route cable along walls, clip or trunk it, and never leave a run across a walkway.

Electricity

Risk: Mains voltage can give a fatal shock and cause burns.

Control: Never open powered kit. Isolate and prove dead with a voltage tester before touching terminals.

In game you confirm these in a risk assessment before starting. Skipping them on risky work can cause a fall or a shock — and it’s logged as a safety incident.

When it’s not done correctly

Laptop cabled to a switch with no uplink

It shows 'No internet' — every online app on it fails.

Leaving a support visit early

The on-site timer stops; the job isn't finished.
