Overview

What it does

OPS Cloud rents virtual servers to players and businesses, running on OPS Data's compute servers.

On OPS Hub

OPS Hub → Data & Cloud (virtual servers, capacity).

On the phone

The cloud console is at opscloud.sa in the Browser.

What players physically do

Everything below happens in the world, with your character, where other players can see it.

  • Order a cloud server at opscloud.sa and pick a plan and image
  • Open firewall ports and host a website on it
  • Move a website from shared hosting onto a cloud server

How the system works

How OPS Cloud's part of the world fits together — and what breaks when it doesn't.

OPS Data centres & OPS Cloud

Data halls

Racks, UPS, generators and CRAC cooling within 25 m form a hall. Racks need power (UPS or socket), a ToR switch and a CAT6 uplink to an online router.

Heat

Running servers make heat; CRAC units remove 30 kW each. Over 32 °C servers degrade; at 40 °C they shut down until it cools.

Power

On mains the UPS charges; in a power cut it runs on battery (longer at low load), then everything goes dark.

OPS Cloud

Customer VMs are placed on healthy 'cloud' role hosts in their region, restarted elsewhere when a host dies, or left 'host down' / 'waiting for capacity'.

Platform roles

Servers can run OPS Web hosting, OPS DNS or OPS mail. Once a role has servers, that service is down whenever none is reachable — websites time out, lookups fail, mail bounces.

Every job

Every job OPS Cloud does. Open one to see who it's for, what the customer pays, what the engineer earns, the certificate needed, the parts used and exactly how the server checks the work was really done. A job is only paid when its check passes.

Cloud servers & website migration

Set up customers' OPS Cloud servers and move their websites onto them.

Cloud server set-up

$150engineer earns $180

Set up the customer's OPS Cloud server: running, ports 80/443 open, their website hosted on it.

Who it's for

HomesBusinessesPoliceGovernment

Money

Customer pays $150; the engineer is paid $180 wages when it's signed off. The rest goes to the company.

Certificate

Not required — the Cloud operations course covers it.

How it's created

Raised by a customer, a fault or staff for a specific site.

How the server checks it was really done

The cloud server must be running with ports 80/443 open and the site hosted on it.

Training & safety

Each group of jobs has a course in OPS Academy: the lesson below, a health & safety module, an exam and a practical. You can read all of it here, or take it on OPS Hub → Classroom, in the OPS Academy app on the phone or laptop, or at opsacademy.sa in game.

Cloud operations

Cloud servers & website migration

Set up customers' OPS Cloud servers and move their websites onto them.

Overview

An OPS Cloud server (VM) runs on OPS Data hardware and has its own public IP and firewall. To host a website on it: the VM must be running, ports 80/443 open, the site hosted on the VM's IP, and the domain pointing at that IP. 'Move to another server' in the site editor moves a site and updates the DNS for you.

The equipment — and what it does

Cloud console

Create, start/stop, resize, firewall, snapshots, console log.

Browser → opscloud.sa → Console.

Move to another server

Moves a site between OPS Web hosting, a cloud server and the customer's own line.

opsweb.sa → the site → Move to another server…

Tools & protective equipment

Engineer laptop & console cable

Configures routers, NVRs and servers, runs speed tests and opens OPS Hub.

Step by step

  1. Check the customer's serveropscloud.sa → Console. Your job's customer appears under the job reference. It should be Running.
Browser → opscloud.sa Engineer laptop & console cable about 8 s in game
  2. Open the firewallOpen ports 80 and 443.
VM → Firewall → Edit Engineer laptop & console cable about 8 s in game
  3. Put the site on itopsweb.sa → the site → Move to another server → the VM's IP (or create the site on that IP).
opsweb.sa Engineer laptop & console cable about 8 s in game
  4. Publish & testMake sure the site is Live and visit the domain.
Browser Engineer laptop & console cable about 8 s in game
  5. CheckPress Check on the job.
OPS Work → the job about 8 s in game

Health & safety — hazards and controls

Customer data & privacy

Router settings, passwords and camera footage are private.

Only change what the job needs. Never share Wi-Fi passwords or footage, and log out of customer systems when you finish.

Downtime

Moving a site at the wrong moment takes it offline.

Snapshot first, and move when the VM is running.

What goes wrong if it's done badly

Ports 80/443 closed

Visitors get 'connection refused' and the check fails.

VM stopped or host down

The site times out.

Domain still pointing at OPS Web

Visitors keep seeing the old copy and the check fails.
